Project for February

It's Friday today and it's the day that I have to work in my son's preschool. I had to do arts and crafts with them and this is what I came up with. I thought it was cute, easy and useful. My son liked doing the stickers part. It's a calender. I like it because the kids won't get too messy doing it. The little girls were more interested in doing this craft then the boys.

25 Random Things About Me.

My friends and are writing 25 random things about ourselves and e-mailing it to learn more about each other. It's fun. It kinda makes you think about yourself. It's hard at first trying to think of anything interesting but it comes easily later. Everybody should try it.

1. I'm a quarter Chinese and I can count 1 to 10 in Mandarin. My grandmother on my mom side was Chinese but was adopted by a Malay family.

2. I flew to Malaysia when I was 35 weeks pregnant so that my son will have Malaysian citizenship. It was very uncomfortable. By the time I got to Hong Kong I was about to cry but it was nice to have my family around me.

3. After giving birth to my son I was in confinement for 44 days. That meant I could not go outside of the house or downstairs very often(I could go to the doctors office) and could only eat bake, broil, steamed food. No ice, sodas and all the goodies I usually eat. I lost my baby weight but gained it all back when I came back to the States.

4. I bungee jumped in Phuket, Thailand.

5. I met LeVar Burton at the Sacramento Airport. He use to play Lieutenant Geordi LaForge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. I love that show.

6. I'm a t.v addict. My siblings are t.v addicts too. We have no idea where that came from because our parents weren't. I found out that what my siblings and I have in common, we get annoyed when someone is talking to us when we are watching our shows. So sad.

7. I share the same birthday as my brother who is 9 years old then me and a cousin who is 7 years younger then me. April 10th. Yea Aries!!

8. I feel uncomfortable when I get a compliment.

9. I sometimes sing a song out the blue and not realize that I'm singing. I could be singing Jingle Bells in the middle of a heat wave. My husband doesn't care for my singing.

10. I can't carry a tune. I got an D in voice class when I was in college. I froze in my final.

11. I hate public speaking because my voice shakes when I get nervous and it sounds like I'm about to cry.

12. I like being crafty but I'm not very patient to master it well.

13. I don't have very good eye and hand coordination and patience so I'm not good at video games.

14. I can't watch sad movies because it will make me bawl like a baby.

15. I jumped off the school bus before it came to a full stop. I hurt my knee and still have the scar. I think I was in primary school when that happened. I thought it would be cool to do it because I saw the guys would do it.

16. I was the only child out the 3 of the us that was in detention in secondary school. The detention in Malaysia is different from the States. From my understanding detention in the U.S, the students just stay in the classroom and think what you've done. In Malaysia, we have to show up on a Saturday and pull freaking weeds on school grounds or some kind of manual labor. My mom was angry!! hehehe.

17. I never knew how to pump my own gas till I came to the U.S.

18. My finger got stuck trying to pull out the receipt from the gas pump. I was horrified that they would have to call someone to help me. I did manage to relax and pull my finger out after a couple of seconds.

19. I have a horrible memory but if you asked me a useless information regarding a t.v or movie that i like. I'll probably know the answer.

20. I found out my blood type because my family use to tease me that I was adopted. I got my blood tested and found out that I was O+ and knew that my dad was O+. So that was the proof that needed to know that I was not adopted but I didn't realized that is a common blood type.

21. I love to visit other places but hate the process of getting there. I don't care for flying or driving to my destination. I get bored driving long distance. Steve would say it's a 6 hour drive to LA but for Azlina it would be 3 because she would spend the other 3 sleeping.

22. I can't sit still for a movie. I tend to fidget a lot.

23. I love carbs. Rice, pasta, bread, potatoes and spicy food too.

24. I hate cleaning my house but I get great joy after cleaning it. I get a high from a clean house. I feel like all is right with the world when I clean my house which is not often.

25. I hate exercising. It doesn't matter if I've been to the gym 6 weeks consecutively, lost weight and feel great about myself. You know how people say that it gets easier and once you feel great, you'll feel bad about guilty for not going. I can honestly say that has never happened to me. I have to motivate myself to get out the house to the gym.

supermomblogs.com launches!!

http://supermomblogs.com

I don't know about my fellow bloggers but I'm not very good with computers. My time is very limited on the computer. Most of the time I just use the computer to check my e-mail, play scrabble on facebook with my friends, get directions to a place I need to go, check out amazon.com and a couple of other things that might interest me. My husband was the one who asked me to start blogging. It was a way for me to express myself and maybe I could earn a couple of bucks here and there. I still haven't earned anything and I'm still learning my way about blogging.

When I first started I tried a couple "networking" things to increase the hits on my blog. My husband kept telling me to sign up for "blog aggregators" so that more people might see my blog. I did that and found that the aggregators didn't work very well or they asked too many questions and it was the same unnecessary questions all the time. It was a lot of trial and error. I'm still confused how Blog Catalog works. I see some people on there add me but I have no idea where I'm suppose to look to see what's going on. It's very overwhelming for me. To make it worse, it hasn't helped increase my hits.

I'm a very simple person. I'm the kind of person who things a cell phone is a telephone to call people. I'm not of those people who uses their phone as a ipod, pda, portable movie watching thingy. I do use the camera once in a while to take photos when I forget to bring my real camera.

Anyway, my husband saw what I was going through and listened to my complaints and decided to help and create an easy blog aggregator website. It's really easy to manuver around. I hope everybody will check it out. It's a place for everybody to share and find whatever they are looking for from the "momosphere" ...or mom blogosphere such as book reviews, crafts, movies, recipes, product reviews, etc. My husband says it's still very "beta" but really wants people to try it out and give us feedback on how he could improve it to help us simple mom bloggers out.

Check it out, sign up, add your blogs, and let me know what you think.

Stickey Date Cake

Here's a recipe that my sister gave to me. She made it while I was in Malaysia and I really like it. I made it for a get together that a friend of mine was having before everybody goes off to visit their family for Christmas. It's called Sticky Date Cake. It's made out of dates, covered with pecans and walnuts. The cake is sticky and sweet because of the butterscotch topping. It's not a pretty cake and tedious to make but it is really yummy when you warm it up in the microwave and drizzle the butterscotch on top of it. I've gotten pretty good reviews from my friends. It's nice to eat it with a cup on coffee or tea on a cold day.

Things I Treasure

I know Christmas is over and 2009 is coming fast. I'm so ready to pack things away but we're going to wait untill the first week of Jan. I thought I would share more ornaments that my son made in school. I love homemade stuff now. I guess I like it because, you know, it's one of a kind and someone took the time to make it for you. I'm going to save it till one day I can present it to my son and show him what he has done over the years. I'm not the only one who enjoys homemade stuff, I realize that my friends are into it too. We really enjoy baking, knitting and making blankets. A friend of mine is making a blanket for my son. I'll take a picture and post it as soon as I get it. I guess it's pretty easy to make but it's still a sweet thought.

I also added pictures of the cookies we made for Santa. Just in case he needed a snack.

Homemade Ornaments

Arts and crafts are the other things that have been keeping me busy. Right now I'm trying to finish the Wonder Pets ornaments for my son. It's one of the kids shows that he likes to watch. I thought it was a pretty easy project, so I thought I would get a head start by cutting it out and gluing it together. Then my son can stuff it a little so he can be a apart of the project. It's still a work in progress. I'll probably post all the ornaments that my son has done in school and at home.

It's taken me a couple of days but here is the end product. I started off with the Linny the guinea pig who is also the leader of the Wonder Pets, then I did Ming Ming the duck because she is my son's favorite character. I gave it to him last night and he was so excited about it that he `hung it up on the tree. I mentioned that there's no Tuck. Tuck is a turtle and the third member of the team. You should have seen his face when I said no Tuck. He started looking for Tuck and started crying. So when I woke up this morning, I started on Tuck and it was done within a couple of hours but I still had to wait for the glue and the gold puff paint around Tuck to dry. I should be able to finish it tonight, close it up, glue the top part, then give it to my son tomorrow. The things you do for your child...

Family Reunion

Over the weekend my Dad's side of the family had a huge family reunion. I heard it was great fun. I guess it made it in the newspapers and the news on t.v. 700 people showed up for the family gathering. I'm kinda sad that I didn't make it but I'm glad to hear that a lot of people from all over the world made an effort to come to the reunion. It was reported that it was one of the biggest family reunions ever had in Malaysia. I'm sure it was a great way for the families to meet the newer generation and catch up with what's going on with each other's families. I wish I was a part of it but I was back recently for Eid. One of my Dad's cousin wrote a book about her dad Tan Sri Taib Andak. It should be an interesting read. My grandmother was mentioneded in the book on how she managed to send all four boys to university by selling apam ( steamed rice cake that you eat as a snack with grated coconut) during World War 2. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago and he's never far from my thoughts. Every time I look at my son I wish my Dad was still alive so that my son would know him. I know he would have loved this reunion because he would have gotten to meet up with the families he has not seen for a long time. Family was very important to my Dad. He and his brothers showed me that family came before money. It's nice to know where you come from and see how far your family has helped you get where you are. I'm very proud of my family for their achievements, values and loyalty. I'm glad that we have a family tree so that my son will learn his Malaysian heritage because it's easy to lose it when we're living in the United States.
